The mystery of white sand at Punta Bolívar Beach
The mystery of white sand at Punta Bolívar Beach (Sun and beach)
Approximately seven kilometers from Coveñas, where you can find hotel areas with cabins and private beachfront houses with calm waters, there is a beach with white sand. Legend has it that around 1700, the Spanish identified several giant corals, which they called "cayo de piedras horadadas" (perforated stone cay). This cay is located before reaching the San Bernardo Archipelago. At that time, the coral underwent a complete bleaching process, leaving only giant white stones. Locals have since extracted the decomposing coral, which contributes to the white color of the sand as it breaks down. In addition to the white sand beach, you can also find areas with mangroves and a rich biodiversity.
